The Original Renaissance Pleasure Faire & Artisans Market

The Original Renaissance Pleasure Faire and Artisans Market will celebrate its 49th year of festivities at the Santa Fe Dam Recreation Area in Irwindale on April 9-May 22, 2011. Festivities at the Faire include 16th century games, rides, art, crafts, live entertainment, shopping and more than 100 gourmet food options. With more than 20 acres of lake-side meadows and shady trees, the Santa Fe Dam Recreation Area offers a beautiful environment for visitors to enjoy the Original Renaissance Pleasure Faire and Artisans Market.

Fans of Renaissance style reenactments will enjoy the live action game, RenQuest—an annual tradition of theatrical entertainment including more than 2,000 performers. RenQuest participants will interact with knights, swordsmen, minstrels, rope-walkers, jesters, jugglers and other comedic performers during their quest. Players earn points by solving riddles and challenges, rewards and ribbons are awarded to outstanding participants.

Other hands-on games and rides include archery, crossbows, a dunk tank, axe throw, knife throw, turtle races, fencing and darts. Next, take a ride on the giant swings, dragon swing, carousel or climb up the monolith. Then, try not to get lost in the labyrinth and try to survive in the javelin competition. There’s a ton of fun waiting the whole family at the Original Renaissance Pleasure Faire and Artisans Market.

In the Marketplace, browse more than 150 artisan vendors displaying hand-made crafts, art, clothing, food, treats and other novelty Renaissance style gifts. Some of the food offerings include giant grilled turkey legs, chocolate dipped cheesecake on a stick, corn on the cob, baked potatoes, Greek salad, fish and chips and sweet gelato. Enjoy a hearty ale or jug of port to wash it all down at the Original Renaissance Pleasure Faire and Artisans Market.
